To introduce participants to Essex safeguarding vulnerable adults and mandatory training in care homes for all healthcare professionals.
Many people who go into the healthcare field love people and want to do whatever they can to help them. There are some people who choose to further their profession and step outside of the walls of a doctor’s office or hospital and into the home of the elderly or severely injured. In order for someone to work as a healthcare professional there is certain training that they are required to obtain. They learn how to spot injury, illness and pain in their patients. In order for someone to work as an in-home healthcare professional there is more significant and in depth training that is required. Working with someone in their home requires knowledge, observation and communication skills that are not typically required of a healthcare professional.
If someone is interested in becoming an in-home healthcare professional, they need to take an Essex safeguarding adults course. This is an important course because many people who require in home care are elderly or are severely injured. Not everyone cares for the elderly or injured well. The person taking care of the individual is typically being paid well to give the person care but knows that the person has no one to tell about anything that they are doing wrong. Some people are abusive to the elderly and hit them when they are irritated or overwhelmed by the situation. This can lead to serious injury for the in-home patient. When going to do in home care for an elderly patient it is important that the in-home healthcare professional is able to spot signs of abuse. There may be bruises present on the person's body, bite marks, scratches or they may be suffering from malnutrition. The Essex safeguarding adults’ course will teach someone how to spot signs of abuse and learn how to properly help the individual.
Another factor that is taught during the Essex safeguarding adults’ course is how to handle a potential dangerous situation when it comes to the elderly or injured. If an elderly person is injured by their caregiver and needs more extensive medical attention right away, the in-home healthcare professional may feel intimidated by the abuser who is present. If this situation arises the training that the person received in their Essex safeguarding adults course will help them to know what to do and the best way to handle the situation.
When noticing abuse on someone who is injured or elderly most people do not know how to react. The Essex safeguarding adults’ course will teach someone how to help the individual who is being abused without putting himself or herself at risk. This can be a very delicate situation to be in and needs to be handled with the utmost care. If someone is abusing an elderly person, he or she will more than likely not want their secret revealed and may go to extremes to keep themselves out of trouble. The Essex safeguarding adults course will give someone the knowledge that he or she needs to be sure that they are helping to protect elderly and injured patients and themselves at the same time.
